But first, a summary on what we have learned. There are two separate issues being conflated in the news:
1) HERE IS WHAT IS NEW, AND UNDENIABLY HORRIFIC: Our government has changed its policy about families who cross the border, and it is resulting in families being torn apart.
Historically speaking, with few exceptions, the U.S. has treated immigration violations as civil — rather than criminal — offenses. Therefore, children have not typically been torn away from their parents even when the parents enter the legal system as a result of immigration violations. Families were, at worst, detained together, or they were released with notice to appear at a later court hearing.
However, the current administration has dismissed this historic practice as “catch and release” and in its place has established a “zero-tolerance” policy – subjecting “100% of illegal southwest border crossings” to criminal prosecution – even crossers who may be asylum seekers. So now, parents are ensnared in the criminal system, their children are immediately ripped out of their arms without explanation, and parents and babies are sent to different detention centers – often hundreds of miles away from each other.
The stated goal of 100% criminal prosecution will mean 100% family separation. Last week, a Border Patrol official testified that 658 children were taken from their parents in just two weeks in early May. At this rate, more than 4,000 children will be separated from their parents this summer.
2) THE 1475 MISSING CHILDREN we have all heard about over the last several days are children who crossed the border without their parents (called unaccompanied minors) during the past several years. When children are detained after crossing the border, they are detained in shelters, and the government tries to find sponsors—family or family friends—to reunify the kids with while their immigration cases proceed. This is not new. The news is that our government has lost track of 1475 of the unaccompanied children they released to sponsors. Each of our contacts in the unaccompanied child advocacy world has assured us that the vast majority of these children are not in fact “lost.” Sometimes the kids or sponsors move and don’t notify the government. Sometimes the kids are in a situation that isn’t supportive and they leave. Tragically, sometimes the kids are in terrible situations or trafficked—forced to work instead of go to school, while their cases are pending. After much research and outreach, it is clear that the communities most profoundly affected are NOT in favor of increased governmental authority (through ICE) over the children’s mobility post-detention. Instead, the best approach is to ensure that unaccompanied children have legal advocates from the start of their detention – which is, as you will read about below, our goal today:
The reports are that parents and children who have been forcibly separated are traumatized: Experts have labeled this sudden family separation to be torture. These traumatized children sit in centers alone without their parents, and without legal advocates, they don’t know what is happening or where their parents are. There are no public defenders for these children, so if their cases are not taken on by non-profit American groups, children as young as two are required to stand in front of judges alone and “defend themselves.” Asylum cases are very complicated and the law is difficult, and the judge often orders them returned to the violent country their family was desperate to flee – which can become a death sentence for these children. It is also up to that country’s government to reunify the deported children with their parents. This often doesn’t happen smoothly, and parents must fight to find their children, navigating complex systems across borders.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OTHER PEOPLE’S CHILDREN.
We will fight for these kids like we’d fight if they were our kids. Because they are.
We will fight for these mothers like we’d fight if they were our sisters. Because they are.
Here’s what we are going to do:
FIRST: We are going to help get these babies back into their parents’ arms. We’re going to start with the sixty little ones- aged 12 months to 10 years – sitting in an Arizona detention center right now. These little ones need help, and they need that help to come in the form of bilingual lawyers trained to deal with traumatized children. We — through the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project – are going to provide and fund two lawyers and two advocates who will be responsible for representing every child in that center and every one of their parents. Their first priority will be to establish and maintain contact between child and parent. Their ultimate goal will be reunification and safety and rehabilitation for each child.
SECOND: Tomorrow, we will share a grassroots, focused, and united demand for policy change. WE THE PEOPLE WILL DEMAND THE REVERSAL OF THIS INHUMANE POLICY OF TEARING FAMILIES APART.
For now: Children are alone, right now, traumatized in these detention centers, desperate for their parents. Parents are sitting in detention centers, right now, desperate for their babies. They loved their babies enough to risk their lives to get them to safety. They love their babies. Just like we do. Just like we do. For now: Do not allow your heartbreak to go wasted. TURN YOUR HEARTBREAK FOR THESE CHILDREN INTO HELP FOR THESE CHILDREN.
If my country was ravaged with violence and my children were in constant danger, I hope I’d have the courage to do whatever it took to get them to safety. I hope that when we got there, we’d be cared for instead of terrorized. And if I were ever separated from Chase, Tish, and Amma, I’d hope that some mothers, somewhere out there, would care enough to get them back to me.
Today we give our kids Love.
Tomorrow we give our lawmakers Hell.
Who’s Coming With Us?
If we all show up today and meet the needs of our children in Arizona, we will then turn our attention to funding the incredible, and already thoroughly vetted organization Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, which operates around the country, including on the border, providing advocates for unaccompanied, detained children. We spoke with them all weekend, and they are in desperate need of an additional attorney to step up to address the influx of children into the detention centers. We promise you this: As long as you keep showing up, we will continue to meticulously match your dollars with the exact organizations doing the most vital work — until as many of these precious children as possible are reunited with their parents.

CSGO stickers, just like items, skins, and other personalized items in the game, have become one of the rewards any player wants to get while playing the game. These collectible items were introduced in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive during the February 5, 2014 update and has become a staple must-have. Stickers are used for the pure aesthetic of the game, especially towards personalizing a player’s weapon in the game.

Your site is good
Very interesting content Thank you
Thank you for giving us a way to “do” something. Every time I think about this I think about my own Oma who left a country where her family was starving, her father was beaten so badly he was unrecognizable and her mother was raped. I can barely think about how we are tearing children from their parents … the trauma, the language barrier … the inhumanity of using children as pawns. There is no such thing as other people’s children.
very very good
However, if the mind is still sensible, no parent will abandon their child. Even if there is separation, there must be something very terrible. Hopefully we are away from that.
Tnx for sharing, very good job

Your blog is very informative and great. Its very great read for me because your writing skills is so good and you will write this post in very good manner. Thanks!
I was flabbergasted at the comment that abortion is a choice, but a parent taking their child and doing something illegal is also a choice, so why don’t we (or some people) see that? Come on folks think about the conditions these families are traveling in. The detention centers have clean running water, food, and air conditioning. That alone vastly improves their quality of life. Stop the drama. It is sad if the children get separated from their parents but the parents should have thought about that before they took their children along to commit a crime. WE are not the bad guys here. We’re being sucked dry by people who aren’t citizens and I am sick of it. Do it the right way or you risk the consequence. Period.
Mildred, I will pray for you. It breaks my heart to read this hatred people have towards our Latino brothers and sisters. I can only hope you have this opinion because you believe some of the misinformation that is out there, and not because you have a hateful heart. I spend hours every week helping Central Americans with their efforts to stay alive. The only LEGAL option to have political asylum is to come to the US and then make the request. They ARE doing it the right way. They know they are facing a terrible journey, but they are desperate to save their children’s lives. In many of these cases, staying home means certain death. Did you know that if you are here requesting political asylum, that you are constantly monitored during the multi-year vetting process? During that time you are required to pay taxes and not allowed to receive any services other than school for your children. They are contributing to our economy, our tax base and receiving nothing for it. You will be worse off financially when they are no longer here working and paying taxes. And they will be dead. I’ve sat next to too many grieving mothers in my trips to Central America to doubt them. Again, I will pray that you will learn to love the immigrant. I am a Christian, so I have to support them because doing anything else is going against the Bible. I hope you also learn to have this love, regardless of your religion.
Bless you.
Hey Mildred, check your heart. Those five-year-olds taken from their parents–never knowing if they will ever see them again–should thank their lucky stars they are getting aluminum blankets and are allowed no physical touch from anyone.
If you haven’t figured it out already, what Trump is doing with this policy is racism in action. If you doubt this, ask yourself this: If these were white Canadian kids trying to cross the border, would we be treating them the same. The anti-immigrant movement has been used by the Nazi’s and every other totalitarian regime in history. It allows angry, impotent people to blame minorities for their own suffering.
A great website with interesting material
Please provide information on how i can help in person with my time and money. This breaks my heart and i want to fly out there to help.
Hello My name is Claudia Nichols I am fluent in Spanish and English and currently work as an HR Administrator for a hospitality company. I would like to contribute financially but I know there is also need for translators in Texas but I have a 2 year old and currently pregnant so if I can be of any assistance in Arizona where I currently live I would like to offer my skills to assist in any way I can. I hope to hear from you and be able to not only contribute financially but also in actions.
Thank you .
Glennon, I gave money and it feels okay, and I trust you and know you are doing the hard and real work to make sure that money gets where it needs to go.
But I need help because I feel paralyzed with the want/need to do something more tangible (and to get my own kids involved). Do you know of anyone collecting donations/delivering messages/pictures stickers other stuff that makes kids feel safe to these families? I would like to feel like I am connecting my efforts to real human children who are suffering. And it isn’t your job to figure this out for me, but I am overwhelmed, so I thought I would ask.
Megan, I’m following this thread, did you receive any insight yet? I feel the same exact way! 12 months old is so little, do we know what their needs are for their day to day or even where to send it? Diapers, toys, clothing etc. I have a background in Event Planning/EA work and would be happy doing anything to help; transportation, travel, clerical work, literally anything!!
No, unfortunately I haven’t heard anything, and in my research I’ve only heard of reports that people who attempt to volunteer, donate, or offer direct aide in any form are turned away. Often with hostility and force. So I’m really not sure what to do. Except, I think, keep calling representatives. Those phone calls are having an impact.
I also would like to get involved in this way Diapers, crayons , markers, hygiene products, jump ropes, stickers, small toys anything that could bring a tiny piece of Joy to these heartbroken children. My heart breaks.! My church, my family , my friends we will rally Is it possible to get these kind of bags to the places needed. Please give ideas Thank you !
I just can’t feel sorry for them. They probably should lose their children anyway for child endangerment. You can cry me a flood and I’m still going to say: Get out of my country and take your crime and drugs with you. Why liberals think it is okay to allow illegals to invade my country is completely incomprehensible to me. Maybe, liberal just means TRASH. And trust me, having Bozo DeNiro rant off until his elderly teeth fly out only ruins your cause.
When did this become YOUR country? Unless you are native American, I’d respectfully ask that you shut the fuck up. How dare you judge people fleeing in order to have a better life! Aren’t you lucky that you don’t have their problems.
Just wow.
How very Christ-like of you.
Rory this is not your phucking country.!! This country was stolen from the native Americans, and nothing stolen will be blessed and flourish. So , go ahead and YOU cry me that river.
Shame on you
You can’t feel sorry for them? You can’t feel sorry for the children? For the parents? You lack empathy and compassion. You have let others rot your mind by making you fear and distrust your fellow man. This is not a partisan issue. This is a human rights issue. You have fallen for the oldest trick in the book which is for powerful people to turn everyone else against each other. While we fight, they get richer and more powerful. Please reconsider your hateful views. These are helpless, powerless children. They are innocent, not pawns in a political game.
It must difficult for you to live with yourself
Rory – you’re entitled to your opinion, but unless you’re a native American, your ancestors are also immigrants just like most of us. Clearly, you’re a person with little empathy for human beings, in particular, vulnerable children. Therefore, your self-serving statements serve no purpose other than to make you sound like a f**king idiot!
Rory, your ignorance is not worth my time and all these good peoples iether. Leave this website and work on processing your hate and yourself. This isnt your country, unless you are native American. If your are not, like I suspect your arent, remember your parents or great grandparents were once in a similar or worse situation as immigrants from today. Laws were systematically put in place to favor certain races gaining citizenship over others. Educate yourself!
Rory,
What kind of human being are you? We are talking about children here. Families. Human beings seeking nothing more than your own forebears did. A chance for a safer, better life.
Your government, in your name, is jailing children.
This is my country, too. I welcome these people.
Shame on you.
Rory, your STUPID is showing. Educate yourself.
Why in the world are you here? Clearly, you have nothing to do with your time end little energy. We all reap what we sow.
I pray you are never in a position of intense fear and total confusion. You are the true example of inhumane and entitled, I bet you are a selfish piece of crap who is so insecure that your bitchassness can only hide behind Trumps stupidity. Trump idiots are THE MINORITY in this country, I PROMISE you this!! The soul purpose of the evil of this presidency is so that our soul’s purpose can expand out to do good. It’s to awaken the truth, the good, and the spiritual beings we are so that we can overcome the evil presidency that is trying to overtake this free country. Be spiritually awake to overcome.
How can you be so heartless? What did these children, not the parents, do to you? I pray you never have to experience what they are.
I am ultra-conservative and I think you are a jackass. Liberals have nothing to do with this issue. It’s about terrified children. It’s about doing what is morally right. We can figure out the politics of immigration later. Let’s get a child back to his mom and dad now.
Hey Rory,
We have over 10,000 gun related murders in this country each year. The vast majority of these deaths are American-on- American crimes.
My husband & I live in Tucson, AZ and are retired; we would like to help in some way, in addition to money, with the warmth of a smile or hug. Maybe a warm blanket etc. etc.
We can drive and have time & love to give.
I am in Texas and want to do the same but what I read is that they are not letting even the shelter workers touch the children. They are instructed to not pick them up or hug them even if they are crying!!!
I’m in Glendale, AZ. Can citizens go down there to help comfort the kids and bring them toys, etc.?
Please provide an update. Earlier in thecomments, someone thanked you for providing an update, but I can’t find it. Also, is there a list of where these detention centers are located? I’d like to do something if one is located in my state. I am unable to travel, but would like to go more than just donate money, thank you.
Thank you for updating. I’m so glad to hear the news from the project.
Where do you see a recent update?
I totally accept with the past viewer. I presume the great determination and good comments are wonderful foundation to compose high quality information.
In my opinion, not many bloggers own so many tips to generate unique, absorbing articles. I appreciate creating it and I want you didn’t lose the motivation to make the new ones!
It’s very complicated to compose a certified texts in a short time and nevertheless posses heads full of concepts to generate brand new ones. I need to state that the blogger is a professional author.
I have constantly thought about how to create top excellence materials and submit them on the site. Today I must state that the work isn’t for me. I keep it for pro people.
I completely agree with the earlier viewer. I believe the ideal motivation and good views are great basis to make premium quality material.
In my opinion, not numerous bloggers have so many tips to build latest, interesting blog posts. Many cheers for doing it and I want you did not lose the motivation to write the unique ones!
I find it fascinating that our country is so concerned about these children brought here illegally by their parents but we are not concerned about the deaths of thousands of children aborted in this country every year! We are a complicated society.
It’s not that complicated because some of us see the difference between an embryo and a living, breathing, feeling child that is suffering right now. Out of curiosity, do you have the same sensibility about the 400,000 frozen embryos sitting in fertility clinics across the country?
A human embryo is just a stage in human life – like an infant or a tween or a post-menopausal woman. Funny how it is a human if a couple has been struggling with fertility and then becomes pregnant, but not if the pregnancy is unwanted. If she does not want the baby there are many, many good families looking to adopt. A mother is just a landlord for 9 months. It’s the consequences of actions, good or bad. If someone hit into her while skiing and she broke her leg should couldn’t tell the doctor she needs it fixed NOW so she can go out dancing tonight. We all want everything fixed today, but the answer isn’t snuffing out a growing life. The problem with the lack of respect for unborn life is it snowballs into a lack of respect for other lives – the elderly, the sick, etc. As for the families coming over the boarder, they know what they are risking. There are hundreds of thousands of people from all nations who come here using the correct tools. They may have to wait a bit, but that is how to have a civilized process. We don’t like it when someone cuts in front of us when we are driving, so why should people coming in without following the rules be allowed to cut ahead of those who are? If a family broke into your house, would the answer be they are here now, so I have to let them stay in my home? I don’t think so. A country of chaos is what we are turning into because no one thinks the rules apply to them.
Some of you people are showing an appalling lack of heart. Stop trying to intellectualize cruelty people! It’s wrong. Keep hiding behind your “laws” and your excuses about orderly societies. Then go read a book about the 1930’s in Germany, look in the mirror, and try and grasp what you’ve become.
No one is arguing they are here now so they should stay… the outrage is that parents and children are being separated withou due process. Our constitution says everyone is allowed due process and it is also legal to seek asylum through a port of entry. Moms who come through these port of entrys to seek asylum (which is legal) are also getting their kids ripped apart. If after due process authorities believe someone doesn’t qualify for asylum send them back but in the meantime have a heart, keep families together and provide due process.
Right!? Ridiculous. …
abortion is a personal choice!!!! why do you want people having kids they can’t afford? why do you want more kids in our broken foster care system? if you don’t like abortions, don’t have one!! But it’s not okay for you to take that right away from people who don’t want children!!!!
I find it equally fascinating that people who insist they are pro life only care about the life of an unborn child. Sadly the second that child is born all care, love and concern for the welfare of that child totally disappear. When you are willing to stand up and support all children financially, medically and emotionally then your pro life stance has merit. Until then it’s empty words.
Well said.
I find it fascinating that so many people condemn these parents who have risked everything to flee their homeland in the hopes of providing a safe and secure future for their children, yet insist that those who don’t want children give birth to them anyway then condemn them as well for needing social services to care for and raise those children!
We are! We are concerned with both. This isn’t black and white. These children and those unborn are both without a voice. They BOTH deserve justice, humanity and life! Why does everyone assume that pro life means we aren’t in support of this organization and helping these children? Not everyone whom is pro-life is in support of this horrendous situation or practice that has taken place by any means. Manyyyyy of us aren’t. Many many many
physically impossible to abort children…do you know what an abortion is?
So…………. any genius ideas on how to manage an abortion-free society?
Would you organize and and pay for the cost of the births and care of children who are unwanted, so to “prevent” abortions? Fantastic- let’s see you get started. How about agreeing to being heavily taxed to pay for all of this, including for the parenting classes and housing for teen parents who are going to pregnant , no matter how much abstinence teaching you throw at them? Better yet, it would be even more helpful if people like you would ADOPT the children who are not aborted who so often wind up in the foster care system. I find it fascinating that people in this country who are so “concerned” about these problems will neither get involved nor contribute financially (I am not suggesting that you are not in fact doing any of this, by the way). Those kinds of people are always the ones who complain about food stamps, “welfare,” etc. They want no solutions, they just want to complain. These immigrant children are a separate issue from abortions. We need to stay laser focused on solving this for these families. #NeverAgain #Trump’sFourthReich
Deborah Hall let’s try your comment this way…
I find it fascinating that our country is so concerned about these embryos created illegally, usually by rape, and incest by the monsters that took advantage of the women…. but you and the religious right and evangelicals are not concerned about the of thousands of children who just traveled in most abhorant conditions, kidnapped from their parents,, and locked in cages. We are a complicated society.
I like the sign that one teen protestor held after yet another school shooting: “You Care About Us Before We Are Born, But Refuse to Protect Us After We’re Born.”
Friends, Thank you for this loving initiative. We went through “naturalization” process, going from “illegal alien ” status to permanent residents to citizens. It was long and expensive and stressful.
We have been looked my many ignorant people as interesting people , told many times we don’t look Hispanic, and I know that our white skin helped us navigate the intricate world of inmigration in an easier way. It’s a really messed up system, where we still separate ourselves based on race in this case. I can’t imagine how these parents are feeling right now.
I am hoping that these children can be together with their families soonest, and I offer my self in any way possible with translations or interpreting.
It is mind bugging that these atrocities are happening in United States of America in the 21 st century. How can these people claim that USA is the greatest country in the world when humans are being treated in such an awful way? How can we we proud to be Americans if these things continue to ocurr?
Let’s choose wisely next election, please!!!!!!
My love and strength goes to these families!
The problem is you and many on this page are reporting this situation with great intentional inaccuracy in an effort to raise money and make all believe that the gov’t literally separated the kids from their parents, which, IN FACT, is TOTALLY untrue. The parents of all of these kids sent them across the border because they know that the USA will NOT send them back. In so doing, the parents are the ones who have trafficked their own kids by sending them here without anyone to care for them other than the “coyotes” whom they pay or subject their own kids to horrendous and potential danger, risking the very lives of their own kids.
Instead of falsely reporting this situation, I have no doubt, to elicit sympathy and outrage from the general public, in order to raise money for yourselves, you could do a much better job and actually help the kids you CLAIM to want to help by being totally honest and explain truthfully who is at fault here and had been at fault for more years than the present Administration has been in office! This has been going on a lot longer than you have cared to honestly report and thereby, ARE PART of the problem and the institutionalizing of the problem! But, it is horribly obvious what your agenda truly is, and it is NOT helping any kids, I’m sorry to say! By the way, late in the article in the NYTimes they admitted that the beginning of the article about these kids was, in fact, not true, but you didn’t note that, DID YOU?
You are talking about the unaccompanied minors, mostly teens who have come across the border without parents or guardian for years. Separate issue (akthough these are the ones who were in the paper this week because 1450 of them have not been verified to be with the sponsor who took charge of them) but Again… separate issue.
Different issue is This campaign which is about the FAMILIES who come over the border TOGETHER, some seeking legal asylum at actual border offices, who are no longer charged with a civil offense and are instead charged as criminals and abruptly separated from their young (infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school age) children without any information on how to get them back. That is a change.
SO YOU ARE MISTAKEN. The point of this entire post is that there HAS now BEEN a CHANGE IN policy …and that it is very damaging to the INNOCENT YOUNG children involved. It has to do with a change in the way the parents are charged. This is being done on purpose…and is different from what was done before, where an effort was made to keep familes together until their cases were resolved.
Please read all the related information including the sources for the information. It will give you a fuller and more balanced understanding about what is happening to real people in the PRESENT because of the PRESENT administration.
One year old children should not be treated this way by a country like the U.S.
Funds are being collected to provide legal aid for these young children.
Finally, a voice of reason. This fight is not pro or con abortion, nor about child porn or trafficking. It IS about families being separated and no one being accountable for where the families are located. Can anyone imagine the fear of a toddler who can’t find his mom or dad anywhere in the crowd of people who surround him or her? They need OUR help. If my granddaughter was in same situation I would hope a total stranger would help her find her family once again, safely.
Amen to this. thank you for being the voice of reason!
Very well said !
Wish we could give more. Thanks for supplying a way to do so.
Thank you for not only providing a platform for others like me to help, but for bringing clarity to the information we see reported.
I will admit that I initially read, thought that’s so terrible and began to move on as I’m in New Zealand and this feels very distant to me. However, distance has no relevance and shouldn’t mean that I just allow it to remain ‘someone elses problem’. If this was my kids I would want someone to fight for them (and me). A small amount of reflection on my privilege helped me see that it is exactly this privilege that means I should help where I can.
Sending much love and some $$ from New Zealand
I must accept that truly one of the most fun information I have ever read. It really is also professionally published. I am an British instructor so I see what I suggest.
Florence project is a real organization in Arizona. Its website is being overwhelmed right now so I thought I’d share comment here so people know it’s legit
Here is a brief question to question – how to produce this sort of excellent document? It shows all components what make a great review. There is a catching title and interesting information. Well-done!
It’s very hard to make a certified texts in a quick time and even have heads full of concepts to create brand new ones. I need to express that the blogger is a professional author.
I have continually thought about how to write top excellence content and publish them on the blog. Nowadays I must state that the job is not for me. I leave it for certified writers.
I’ve made my donation. Enough is enough! We need to protect our children. How else can I help? I would like to stay up to date on everything going on, how can I do that?
Iam clicking on the link to “give now” but it doesn’t work, does it have to do with the fact I that I live in the EU?
I am in the EU, amd it worked for me. Maybe the system was overloaded?
Thank you for the incredibly important work you are doing to further educate, increase awareness and take action on this this issue! And as many have said, thank you for giving us a way to help! xo
Wow. I had no idea. I have been turning the other cheek when it comes to this administration but enough is enough. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. I am happy to be able to do SOMEthing to help the situation. I am so grateful for the opportunity. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Dear Glennon,
My heart breaks with all the parents and the kids. Donating money while sitting at my desk is THE LEAST I can do. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, leading us, and giving us an opportunity to help.
Thank you for researching and showing us how we can serve our brothers, sisters and babies!
Thank you for the incredible beautiful work that you do. I do what little I’m able to do in my own community to help immigrant families. Wish I could give $ or be involved but please know my heart is with you and your work– and I will keep doing what I can here.
I live in DC and have posters & markers at the ready if a protest is in the works. I also gave here & directly to the Young Center. We are better than this.
Thank you for giving us a way to help!
I donated in the name of my toddler and my unborn daughter. My heart breaks for these families.
Dear Glennon,
Thank you very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very much for showing up for 60 little ones today and for your outstanding work with your Love Flash Mob! You are very inspiring! Today I made a donation. I am giving my best wishes to you, Abby, Chase, Tish and Amma!
Very gratefully,
William

GLENNON! I live in Phoenix. Who are you partnering with? Do you know three detention facilities? Can I volunteer to snuggle kids, play games, read books?! I’ve got government clearance/federal ID…Im also donating, but would love to be in action here on the front lines!
Kids are sweet and innocent! I feel a little after donating, but I feel i need to do more. What else can I do? My mind only thinks to why in the world would the government want with this many kids?
This country is made of immigrants and refugees, let’s all remember where we catrne from. No one is better just because of where we were born.
I just donated. I want to make sure though – is together rising funding the Florence project directly somehow? Seems a little weird having multiple organizations. Just want to make sure my donation is making a difference for these babies!
I was curious about this too!
It seems that all our donations are going directly to the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project, specifically earmarked for two lawyers whose work is dedicated to defending the children in court and reuniting them with their parents. Together Rising appears to be organizing and gathering the funds … because these are folks with a following who have the capacity to rally donations … and are passing it to FIRFP. So Together Rising has the the ability to raise money for action, and FIRFP has the ability to take that action.
THEY CROSSED THE BORDER ILLEGALLY!!! THEY DO NOT BELONG HERE!!! IT IS THE FAULT OF THE PARENT FOR ENDANGERING THE CHILDREN AND THIS PAGE ENCOURAGES MORE OF THIS.
They are children. They cannot be ascribed responsibility. They are children and they need help.
A desperate parent trying to save their life and the life of their child is hardly a worse offense than taking that child away from the parent and imprisoning them. The parent is doing something moral, trying to save a life. We are doing something immoral as a country–tearing children from their parents and isolating them without any help or representation.
Bad policy and horrific execution of that policy is INEXCUSABLE and does not make the moral (saving lives) immoral. Those desperate people are doing the thing that is right. We are doing the thing that is wrong. If our evil actions are supported by law and/or policy, then our laws/policies are evil as well and need to change.
Be helpful or be quiet. You are outnumbered and out-mothered here. Take your trollness elsewhere.
Oh, Vido – your family would have been denied entry long ago, too. Perhaps Mussolini’s fascist state would have been a better place for your attitude.
Our government is largely responsible at to why these parents are forced to flee their homelands.
Yes it is our government’s Fault. If we would inforce our immigration laws and secure the border, people would not come here. The non-enforcement of our laws draws them here. If we did not support them when they come here, many would not come. If we would send everyone back immediately they would not come. Our government non-enforcement draws people here. Many are people are trafficked in sex industry because of this non-enforcement.
The first European Immigrants did not only crossed the borders illegally but they also killed the real Native Americans, just because now there are Human made laws written in a piece of paper does not make it right to treat a human being as an illegal alien!!Europeans did despicable things to Native Americans Families so much worst than just crossing the border looking for a better future for their Families and they just want to come and work hard to give their Family a better life!!! This land is the land of opportunities for all Immigrants; what make you think that you deserve better just because maybe you were born white and that you are already living here in the USA?, We are all in this Planet just passing by, We do not own anything even if we think we do, we are were born alone and we will die alone like everyone else in this planet, so why do you guys think that you are so superior and so much better that anybody else.? Why no being compassionate with suffering families?
Wow that was beautifully put.
Thank you
Really the European Immigrants crossed illegally? No they did not. Treat people as Illegal alien is wrong? So what is the right way to treat , people who illegally come to a country? What does Mexico do? A person from The USA can not become a citizen in Mexico, they can not own property. The Mexicans confiscated land and killed US citizens when they tried to immigrate to Mexico.
If they come here legally there is no problem, why wont they do that? Why must they and YOU insist that they do not have to obey our laws? Just becasue in Mexico people can break laws and get away with it why do you insist they come here and do the same? If you want a lawless county go back to Mexico or another county that does not have the rule of law. If you do not like the law, there are ways to change it. Don’t just not enforce it or insist that it should not apply to foreigners. I am sorry Citizenship means something! It does mean just becasue I was born here I have a right to live here. My ansesters fought for freedoms I enjoy. Their ancesters gave them what they have. Maybe they should stand up and fix their country.
I am sure the Native Americans that were run off their land and were slaughtered by our ancestors view this differently.
The children are victims in this situation, regardless of how you feel about immigration. If you cannot find it in your heart to show kindness and compassion to these young children, then what kind of human being are you?
I pray that someone will show you the same love that each of these children need and deserve, and perhaps allow you to recognize that we are all God’s children.
Regardless of what your views are on immigration, the fact of the matter is that no child should be separated from their parents. A parent trying to save their child by moving to another country where their child has a chance of living a better life is a true act of love. This country was founded on people seeking freedom and a better life, wasn’t it? Children and parents need to stay together, always.
My grandma came from Italy to this country. Thank goodness the likes of you didn’t slam the door in her face. Some day the judge of all will remind you of this day when people were hurting and in need. And you said “tough luck” – you reap what you sow.
I was on the fence about whether I could afford to donate. Thank you Vido for expressing your lack of a heart and convincing me to donate. I hope people are more compassionate when you (or your children or grandchildren) reach a point where you are in need.
Please learn their stories…learn WHY parents are desperate enough to leave their homes, their friends and families. My daughter lived in El Salvador for 6 years doing work there. I visited 3 times, met wonderful people and fleshed out my understanding of the complexities of these families and immigration. They usually don’t want to come here. They come to feed their families. They come to escape violence. The book, “Enrique’s Journey” can give you some context. It will break your heart and then open it in ways you hadn’t imagined.
Do you not understand that they are children? They have no voice. I will never understand how and when alleged policy became more important than basic care for humanity. You are on the wrong side of this issue my friend.
Vido Dizoglio, these families are trying to survive, just like you and I. You obviously come from a family of 2 or 3rd generation immigrants. How would you like it if they did this to your ancestors. Where is your heart?
If you choose not to help, or fail to agree, please refrain from negative, insensitive, non productive speak.
say this while looking in the mirror: ‘no child is illegal’ then go kneel by your bed & pray god grants you clarity and understanding of history and policy so that you can type informed comments instead of this nonsense.
Calling them “illegal” makes them an object. These are humans – they are children. THESE ARE HUMANS. THEY ARE NOT THINGS. THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS TO BE WAREHOUSED AND SORTED LIKE FURNITURE. THEY ARE PEOPLE. THEY ARE CHILDREN!
I am trying to donate but the form does not seem to be loading. Is there a problem with the togetherrising site?
I was able to donate – my guess is that there are waves of heavy donations and it can’t always handle them!
AMEN Carol!
