That guys sounds like such a jerk. but you were the better person and handled yourself well. it sounds like a misunderstanding (on his part). you did nothing wrong.
don't second guess yourself. guys like that make you want to scream, but just go on with your life and know there is good all around.
Glennon, I just watched the video. What a great video. People are such jerks and don't realize what other people are going through. I hate people like this man in the video who thinks the world evolves around him and his schedule and his needs. I work with people like this and I can't help but point it out. Can I share a Perspectacle story with you?
I was pulling in the CVS parking lot in Countryside, you know the one, the parking is tight. Anyway, a van was parked along the curb -where he should not be and blocking all the other two way traffic trying to get by – waiting for his kid to come out of some karate place. I was behind him and didn't realize at first how long he would be. I sat patiently as other cars passed coming towards us so I had to wait for them before I could make my move anyway. After maybe a minute, silly me, I realized he wasn't moving, so I maneuvered around his big a** car and pulled into a parking space. As I shut my door and looked up, walking towards the store this man in the car rolls down his window and says to me "What is your problem lady???? I saw you!!"
Ohhhhkay. Saw me what? Biting my lip which I was, bad habit. Squinting into the sun and looking around his car so I could safely manuever and get around his car to make the difficult turn into a parking space? I guess he thought I was making a face at him, which I was not.
I was shocked. Here I had been smiling in preparation for a laugh and a chat as I noticed he rolled down his car window and I was going to say "I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were waiting for someone!"
Wait, what? Here, I WAS apologizing!!! I didn't do anything wrong.
He started mouthing off at me for sitting behind him. I was like, "….excuse me?"
I told him I didn't have a problem and what was his problem, and that he should't be parking in the middle of the street.
He said something nasty and then said "oh, look at you and your short hair!"
What???? This guy was really ignorant. This was the best he could come up with? (in retrospect I think he had a deep-seated issue with woman with short hair and perhaps was a bigot and thought I was gay). Short hair?? Really? What a doofus.
"Oh, this?" I said and smiled at him, up at his window now and I could see the 3 very young children in his car now and they looked startled and embarrassed by their jackass father. It was obvious he was a jerk, often.
"Oh, you like my short hair? Thank you! I have breast cancer and this is what chemo does to you, it's finally growing back" I said proudly as I poofed my hand at my inch long hair. I kept smiling and walked way. His kids mouths dropped from what I could see. He didn't know what to say either.
What I really wanted to do was go up and reach through his cracked open window and wring his neck and kick his car door. I should have. I deserved to be a jerk at that moment.
So when I saw this video I just had to write my story. I actually see these labels on people. Sometimes I see their soul. Just like some people saw my soul when I had cancer. I guess the scarf on the head was a tip off. Strangers came up to me to say something nice or give a hug….or just give me a nod and look at me knowingly.
Oh I'm not perfect. Once and awhile I might get a little impatient if someone is road-rage driving or something of the like and some curse words will fly but for the most part I try to bite my tongue.
You just don't know what other people bare on their shoulders and a smile at the check-out line may be all they need or perhaps a friendly nod as you try to maneuver you car around them when they know they are blocking traffic.
Tish looks soo super cute! She really should have called Avery this afternoon to let her know that "Less is more" We went to meet my friend for lunch and she insisted on wearing about 50 necklaces, 2 pairs of sunglasses..one for her head and one for her eyes..dangly earings, mismatched socks, and her sister's (too big for her) light up cinderella shoes.. oh, and her hot pink ipod in her ears.. I got the "r u serious" look from everyone there.. it was great!! JB
I loved that video clip! Before having my son I used to have the wrong glasses on when I would see children misbehaving in public. Now I pray for them, you never know what they are dealing with or what that child is dealing with. Whole new world.
I love Tish's fashion sense! She knows who she is, that is awesome!
Your budding fashionista is adorable! I love that Coco quote. I usually remove a scarf or add one… they are so hard for me to pull off. That or a piece of jewelry.
G, I LOVE that Plato quote; so, so true (I'm writing it down right now) and I love Tish's Fancy Nancy outfit!! I wish my girls could have a tea party with her.

You know what, he actually told me to shut up too. I really wish I has slapped him.

Okay, Tish made me laugh. The video made me cry. I think I'll go make a casserole for a sick friend.
